On 26 November 2025, an internal WIDEX workshop on lithium battery recycling: innovative solutions and research directions was held at the UVZ TUKE facility in Herľany, Slovakia. The event was part of the Lithium Batteries Forum, organized under the national project OptiLib, supported by the Slovak Research and Development Agency (APVV). OptiLib focuses on developing comprehensive technologies for efficient recycling of used lithium batteries.
The workshop highlighted the transfer of knowledge in green and non-invasive technologies, gained during a research stay at Fraunhofer IKTS in Freiberg, Germany. Participants were presented with results from laboratory and semi-pilot tests of CO₂ leaching, electrodialysis for lithium carbonate recovery, graphite flotation, and the integration of these steps into a comprehensive recycling workflow.
Sharing these experimental results fostered expert discussion and promoted the development of innovative and sustainable approaches to lithium battery recycling, contributing to the objectives of the WIDEX project.
